Then, the WPS fell apart in the early months of 2012. Rapinoe was a part of Sydney Football Club FC in the Australian W-League for a couple games before she returned to America. The next time she played was with in the Seattle Washington Sounders Women now the Sound FC. For the 2013 season the soccer player was in France. She joined Seattle Reign FC, now OL Reign in the National Women's Soccer League NWSL that had been formed following the dissolution of WPS. Rapinoe was among their best scorers, and was later promoted to captain. Rapinoe was the one who scored two goals for the United States in the 4-3 win over Australia at the Olympics bronze medal game at Tokyo in 2020 due to the COVID-19 virus which Japan had to delay to 2021 due to the effects of this pandemic, also took home the gold medal in Tokyo in 2016.
